Natural habitat
This large chameleon was introduced into Hawaii from East Africa. It is a tree dweller of the tropical rain forest. When captive, adults require a 2' x 2' x 3' enclosure.
Behavior
Usually tame but frequent handling will stress the animal. Likes to climb on branches, logs, and plants.
Captive environment
Use full spectrum uvb lighting 12-14 hours per day. Provide a basking area with access to a cooler zone. Provide several climbing areas on branches, logs, & plants.
Temperature
Day temperature should be gradient from 75 to 82 degrees F. Maintain night temperature range between 62-68 degrees F. Enclosure should be well ventilated. Screen cages work best.
Humidity
This species requires moderate to high levels of humidity.
Water requirements
Mist enclosure daily (multiple times a day if you provide no other source like a dripper)
Nutritional requirements
Always offer variety for proper nutrition. Eats crickets, worms, flies and possibly feeder roaches. Make sure to dust with calcium a few times a week.
