The intensity of the emissions varies depending on the distance from the basking area.

Appropriate levels of UV are vital for the physiological wellbeing of these animals, which exhibit an aversion to direct solar exposure. Typically known as ‘shade dwellers’, these animals have adapted to nocturnal and crepuscular activity – opting for either deliberate or concealed exposure to sunlight.
